SPI inflation up by 18.13 percent
ISLAMABAD (January 24, 2010): The SPI inflation surged by 18.13 percent on week ended on January 21 over the same period of last year on the back of substantial increase in prices of kitchen items. The official figures released by Federal Bureau of Statistics on weekly SPI inflation here on Saturday showed that inflation during the week went up by 0.10 percent over previous week.


Smeda to hold training programme on IPR
FAISALABAD (January 24, 2010): Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) in collaboration with FCCI has decided to arrange a one-day training programme on "Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) Compliance in Pakistan", at FCCI. Regional Business Co-ordinator Smeda Zulqarnain Shahzad Sikandar stated that this programme has been designed for the business community, associations, professionals, especially from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and students.


LSM posts 0.66 percent growth in July-November
KARACHI (January 24, 2010): Large-scale manufacturing (LSM) sector posted a growth of 0.66 percent during first five months of the current fiscal year as compared to 0.28 percent of last year. Official statistics (provisional) of Quantum Index Numbers of Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (QIM), issued by Federal Bureau of Statistics showed that the LSM sector, which was presenting poor performance for past two years, was once again growing smoothly.



ICCI for developing low-cost energy resources
ISLAMABAD (January 24, 2010): The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry stressed the need for developing low-cost energy through cheap energy sources including hydro, biomass, coal, solar, wind and nuclear. In a meeting with members of the chamber here, President ICCI, Zahid Maqbool, said that China was producing more than 50 percent of its electricity through coal adding that India also produces 40 percent of electricity from coal.
